From Finland to Ukraine (E10)

Since the last episode was a "Keep Racing" leg, the teams behind the models had to complete the run down the tower at the Olympic Stadium before they could move on to their next clues. Teams had to figure out in which country the nuclear disaster at Chernoble took place and then book themselves flights there. Once the teams figured out that their next destination was the Ukraine, they next had to figure out what the capital was. A poor woman at the airport had to tell each team that it was Kiev, or as most of the teams called it "Keev".

The models & the BQs arrived at 1:35pm but due to a flight delay, the other three teams didn't arrive until 2:05pm. Teams had to locate their cars, which had a clue on the window that told them to find the Osler Tank School. Except, of course, it was written in Ukrainian so teams had no clue where they were going. The models & the BQs split the cost of a cab to show them the way, as did Rob & Kim. After getting directions from a local cop, the Chos led the Bamas onto the road only to stop a short way down the road for clearer instructions or a cab to take them further.

At the Osler Tank School, teams found themselves up against a RoadBlock. This time, one racer had to drive a tank through a 1.2 mile obstacle course. James started out ahead of Dustin but after stalling his tank, he fell just behind her and ended up ramming her from behind. Kim powered through it and Godwin pulled ahead of Karlynn. The Chos finished ahead of the Bama girls but decided to wait for them before heading back to Kiev, where teams had to find apartment #33 of building #3. On their way back into the city, the BQs tried to ditch the models by running a red light, which the models also decided to run. But they weren't the only ones to try to ditch their alliance. The Bama girls got tired of waiting for the Chos while they asked for directions and left them behind. Unfortunately for them, the Chos caught up shortly after and followed them to the apartment building.

After finding the right apartment, teams were given clues by an older Ukrainian woman that held the details for the Detour. In Make the Music, teams had to locate a local hip hop club. Once there, the BQs, Rob & Kim and Bama had to not only write & perform a rap but they also had to dress in all the cliche rap gear: baggy pants, backwards hat, oversize sweater & exaggerated bling. In Find the Music, teams had to locate the Conservatory. Once there, the models and the Chos dressed up in full composers gear, searched through piles of sheet music for the piano movement of the "Concert Fantasy" and found a pianist to play it for them. The BQs rap sounded great on paper but they didn't commit to it like the Bama girls, who had the entire club eating out of their hands.

The teams then raced to the next Pit Stop. The models were the first to arrive at the Patriotic War Memorial, a tribute to the victory of WWII, and were awarded a trip for their efforts. Next came the BQs, then Rob & Kimberly and then Bama. Unfortunately, due to some bad navigation on Godwin's part (he turned onto a blocked off street and was pulled over by the police), the Cho brothers were the last to arrive in front of Phil and were eliminated from the race.

Now, while I admire the Chos' gameplay, I am disappointed that they didn't catch onto the backstabbiness of Bama before it was too late. I especially wish they'd figured it out before they'd waited for the Bama girls after beating them at the Roadblock. I think that if they'd stopped being overly cautious about the directions and hadn't waited for them, they could have made it to the mat first. Oh well, without the Chos to help them, I don't think Bama will make it to the final mat first. The only way they'll be able to get ahead of one of the other remaining teams is if the other teams get extremely lost or they happen to get ahead of at least one of them before the yield.

Just one other thing..... does Rob have bad luck with cars, or what?! How many replacement cars have they had so far? Three or four? Rebecca was wondering if he knew how to drive stick. I was wondering if he knows how to drive at all.

Well hell I hate to say I was right but I knew the Cho's would be out either this episode or the next. With four teams left and the first yield coming next week I have to believe that the next and last non-elimination will also be next week. Im still putting my money down as the final three being;

1 -- BQ's
2 -- Rob/Kate
3 -- 'Bama.

No one likes Rob and Kate, but the models and the BQ's are always so close to each other in the race that I think it would be quite easy for either one to bump out the other and I give the edge to the BQ's. I find the BQ's to be smarter racers than the models and the models total lack of direction sense really doesnt help.

I also feel that 'Bama being the last of the "Six-Pack" will be an advantage to them as they have pretty much be discounted by the remaining field. I feel that they could easily slip into the final three as the other teams feel more bad blood about the others than they do the 'Bama team.

I have to disagree with your selection. I don't think Bama will make it to the top 3. They have been riding on the coats of the other teams and now with no one else to help them, they will be out. I was so disappointed in hearing Bama complain that the Cho's were following them and they should do their own thing when they separated. This coming from the team that followed the Cho's because they had a map.

I do agree with you that the BQ's will probably win the race, though with the Yield coming it should be interesting to see who gets there first as we all know if BQ's don't get there first everyone else will yield them.

Hm, I still like the model boys. I'm pulling for them now. They haven't been too devious, just a little clueless at times.

I think it's funny that Phil keeps telling the BQs that an all-female team has never won AR, why wouldn't he be saying that to Bama as well? They've gotten just as far.

Does anyone know if runner-up teams get some prize money as well?

I did find this, but this relates to the AR6 race and their cost breakdowns. Supposedly the teams got the following in prize money:

1 - $1,000,000
2 - $25,000
3 - $10,000
4 - $7,000
5 - $6,000
6 - $5,000
7 - $4,000
8 - $3,500
9 - $3,000
10 - $2,500
11 - $1,500

I'm re-watching the episode with John since he missed it...

Chernobyl "where is that? I know that's where the atomic bomb went off" :-|

I'm SO dying to be on this show and actually use the basic geography knowledge that I have.

You two crack me up! The only team I could see not yielding the BQs is the models but you never know with this race. But unless they make it to the mat before Rob & Kim or the BQs, I have a feeling that Bama may be on the losing end of the Yield timer.

But, I agree with Rebecca. I'm pulling for the models now, too. It was a toss up between them and the Chos and now with the Chos gone, they're the only team left that I really like. They weren't too devious or sneaky. They just took advantage of opportunities that presented themselves and they made some judgement errors that evened the playing field for other teams.

Well here is my reasoning for saying that 'Bama will make it. The BQ's and the models have both come out in the last few episodes as saying that neither trusts the other, and both teams know its just a matter of time before the other stabs them in the back. With that knowledge in hand, and knowing that the first yield is coming soon I really do believe that one of them will yield the other and that will lead to the one being eliminated. The yield is a very spur of the moment type decision maker; few teams take the time to really think about who they want to yield once they are on the mat and unless they have a serious vendetta against a team yield the team immediately behind them. I think 'Bama is far enough back that they dont visible pose a threat to the lead pack at the moment. Rob/Kim (sorry I said Kate earlier), and the models both really hate the BQ's ... but they both also seem to believe that 'Bama will just eliminate themselves. The BQ's have a serious chip against 'Bama but I think the models are always close enough behind them that they would choose to yield them over 'Bama.

Its that key decision that I think will eliminate the models if that situation should arise. No one is expecting 'Bama to do anything, and that could very well play into their favor in the long run.

Very interesting theory Aaron. This would be true assuming Bama is close behind the lead pack, but I don't think they are at this moment. Time will tell though! :)

Yeah, I have to agree. Aaron has a good point and I'm not disagreeing just for the sake of disagreeing. My thought would be that teams may use the Yield on Bama to ensure that a team other than themselves is elminated. If Bama is far enough behind the "lead" teams, it could be a sure thing to Yield them so they wouldn't have a chance of catching up and passing the other teams. It happened to the Pinkies in the other season. If the BQs or the models yielded the other if they were only minutes ahead of them, they would run the risk of the timer finishing before the last team got there. It would push them behind but it wouldn't necessarily get rid of them. The risk, especially with those two "strong" teams, is that they'll still come back to win it even after being yielded.

But that's just my thought. :)

Oh yeah, I've seen the "rivalry" between the BQs and Bama. I also remember when Bama and the models got into in the airport that one time. But why does Rob & Kim not get along with them? Maybe I missed something in one of the episodes I found boring but I don't remember them getting into it. I just remember Rob saying on a train once that he didn't like them......
